What is jan lokpal bill?
The civil society has proposed that an institution called Lokpal be instituted at the centre and Lokayukta in each state will also be set up, completely independent of the government, to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or politician, if corruption charges with substantial proofs are leveled against him or her.
The investigation in any case will be completed in one year and trial should get completed in next one year, so that the corrupt politician, officer or judge is sent to jail within two years. The loss that has been caused to the government by the corrupt person will be recovered at the time of conviction. The CVC, Department of Vigilance and the crime branch of CBI will be merged into Lokpal.
In any government office, if any of your work is not being done in the prescribed time such as lingering-on of your ration card etc., or any money is being siphoned off or bad quality of work is being done, you can approach Lokpal and appropriate action will be taken in very short time.
The entire functioning of Lokpal/Lokyukta will be completely transparent. Any complaint against any officer of Lokpal/Lokyukta shall be investigated and the officer will be dismissed within two months. This bill has been drafted by Justice Santosh Hedge, Advocate Prashant Bhushan and social activist Arvind Kejriwal on the basis of feedback received from public on websites and after a series of consultations. It was sent to the PM and all CMs on 1st December but there was no response.
In a summer day, when you can’t live without a glass of water this old man is fasting unto death. Now, it’s our turn to fight for our own rights. Let us join this movement. The campaign was caused due the resentment because of the following differences between the draft Lokpal Bill 2010 prepared by the government and the Jan Lokpal Bill prepared by the members of this movement, which has received huge public support.
